HyWest concentrates the expertise for building the bridge into the green hydrogen future
HyWest was founded on a General Assembly resolution of the Green Energy Center Codex Group and should bring together the hydrogen experiences of FEN-Systems and HyCentA (Hydrogen Center Austria). More than 40 associated partners are interested on a significant contribution of HyWest for accelerating the introduction of hydrogen in Austria and Central Europe. Therefore HyWest is working with concentrated strength on the following strategic hydrogen topics and projects:
Green Hydrogen: Europe’s largest single-stack alkaline electrolysis plant will deliver green hydrogen for MPREIS Tyrol and Europe in the year 2019. This will happen in parallel to his function for demonstrating grid services for the Tyrolean electricity supplier TIWAG (EU Project Demo4Grid – Demonstration for Grid Services). In the first phase the so resulting green hydrogen will be used to heat the Therese Mölk industrial bakery in Völs near Innsbruck. In e second step the entire vehicle fleet will be converted to electric mobility with green hydrogen. As a result of this MPREIS gradually becomes energy-autonomous with hydrogen.
Hydrogen Regions: For the Zillertal valley (worldwide known tourism brand) the infrastructural conditions for a complete hydrogen region are currently being created by the railway project “Zillertalbahn 2020+, energy autonomous with hydrogen”. In the next step, the regional bus fleet, the piste equipment and also the private vehicles can gradually converted to hydrogen.
Hydrogen Families: Around the Austrian hydrogen highways, where FEN-Systems has done some pioneer work, the hitherto very small hydrogen families (HyFamilies) in Tyrol, Upper Austria, Vienna and Styria – will be systematically expanded by the partners of HyWest. In Austria so far are only 16 so-called “friendly users” who own and operate the world’s first hydrogen vehicle – HYUNDAI ix35 FCEV. They are concentrated surround the first OMV hydrogen refueling stations in Innsbruck, Linz, Vienna and Graz. With the next generation of hydrogen vehicles – the Hyundai NEXO FCEV – the “HyFamilies” can be equipped from now on at a much higher mobility service level. In addition to this, the HyWest partner “Hydrogen eMobility AG” is starting to offer strategic products for the conversion of public and private bus fleets to hydrogen including the associated infrastructure solutions.
In total there should be a significant increase of hydrogen implementations under the strategic advisory of HyWest over the next few years.
